Direct Speech: My father looked at me in anger and said to me, ‘Where have you been so long and why are you wasting your time?’ After a moment, he said, ‘Will you not appear in the final examination?’ I said, ‘I went to my friend’s house to borrow an essential book; but he was not at home. So, I had to wait for him.’
Indirect Speech: My father looked at me in anger and asked me where I had been so long and why I was wasting my time. After a moment he again asked me if I would not appear in the final examination. I replied that I had gone to my friend’s house but he had not been at home, and so I had to wait for him.

Direct Speech: ‘I have got GPA-5 in the SSC examination,’ said Farabi. ‘Congratulations. What do you intend to do now?’ asked Shakil. ‘I want to study in a reputed college. I will try to get myself admitted into Dhaka Residential Model College,’ said Farabi.
Indirect Speech: Farabi said that he (F) had got GPA-5 in the SSC examination. Shakil congratulated Farabi and asked him what he (F) intended to do then. Farabi replied that he (F) wanted to study in a reputed college. He added that he would try to get himself admitted into Dhaka Residential Model College.
